A tale
of friends and partners

The history of the Bambouseraie en Cévennes, goes back 160 years. It is the reflection of the passion of women and men, attached both to the environment and the performing arts and its amazing possibilities, inspiring the artists of today and tomorrow, over and over again. A place packed with history, but resolutely modern and forward-reaching.

Bambouseraie en Cévennes is the result of one determined man: Eugène Mazel! A passionate lover of horticulture and the natural sciences, he first began planting on the site of the Bambouseraie en Cévennes, in 1856: first acclimatising exotic species from China, Japan North America and the Himalayas….

The perpetuation of collections and the enormity of the hundred-year-old trees combine to create extraordinary landscape unity.

The Bambouseraie’s plantation policy incorporates ornamental concerns, rarity of species, short or long-term renewal, necessary diversification and water requirements.

Our growing techniques are all based on development and protection of biodiversity. The Bambouseraie is managed according to the rules of integrated organic protection (zero phyto).
