Over 240 varieties of Bamboo, Japanese Maple, Camelia, Ginkgo Biloba or centenary Sequoias…representing every continent, and with some outstanding specimens! Impressive landscaping with rare tree species and carefully chosen clusters of trees and shrubs. Many of the species at the Bambouseraie en Cévennes are unique in Europe. With each new season, embark upon a voyage steeped in discovery and surprise and delve deep into the heart of nature in perpetual movement.

Inspired by the traditional art of the Japanese garden and Zen influences, Erik Borja, landscape architect and teacher in the Drôme, has used the codes of the local environment and Cevenol climate. Dragon’s breath, embodied in a mini water feature, is spanned by the wooden Pavilion of the Red Phoenix, built in true Japanese tradition. Stop here, and admire the marriage of water, mineral matter and plant life.
Bamboo plants measure between 15 and 25 metres high, so forest is a fitting description here! Since bamboo belongs to the grass family, a bamboo forest is, in fact, a "meadow" of towering grasses. Amidst the dazzling beauty and grandeur of the bamboo, the natural freshness of the forest is much appreciated during the summer season.

Surrounded by palatial trees and bamboo plants, visitors of all ages will be thrilled by this enchanting wonderland. Soak up the monumental scale of these species, of which our park’s largest specimens reach over 40 metres high.
An oriental village, completely built by a Laotian native. Faithful restitution of the architecture and decoration of a traditional Laotian home. Around the village, note the oriental landscape and typical Laotian plant species: banana plants, taros (an exotic tuber), sugar cane, etc...

Eugène’s pool garden is a harmonious blend of architecture, with the bold lines of the pool, the calm water of the mirrors and the spirit of nature of the green corridor with natural, babbling brook. An unusual leafy experience! Considered to be a symbol of initiation and journey of self-knowledge, the labyrinth of plants is also a metaphor for voyage. Escape from a labyrinth of Japanese bamboo (Semiarundinaria makinoï), whose thick vegetation composed of short side branches, makes it ideal for hedge-cutting. Ready for the challenge?

In 2019, Bambouseraie en Cévennes was awarded the “National Park Spirit” label for its natural environment. The national park enjoys wide scale international recognition: it was rated a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO: the agro-pastoral landscape of the Causses and Cévennes are a World-Heritage listed site: the site has been awarded the International Dark Sky Reserve label. Committed to the protection of the environment and biodiversity, the national park spirit label is a new sign of confidence and collective belonging, for the Bambouseraie.
